Broadfield Primary School
SUMMER 2019
Please take time to read our class page as it contains information that you and your child will find useful for this term. If you have any further questions about how we can support your child, please do not hesitate to ask Mrs Jones or Mrs Kosar.
Topics
Our topics this half-term are:
Creative Curriculum – Towers, tunnels and turrets
Science- Identifying plants
R.E/SMSC- Sikhism / Looking after ourselves
Outdoor PE – Tuesday morning/Thursday afternoon
Homework.
On a Friday, your child will be given Numeracy and Literacy homework.
By the end of Year 2, children need to be able to recall number bonds to 10 and 20 as well as 2,5,10 times tables and division facts. It would be helpful if you would practise them with your child at home.
Please could you ensure that your child completes their homework over the weekend. Completed work is due in on Monday morning.
This year we will be focussing heavily on reading. It is an important life skill and our aim is that all our children develop a love of reading; for interest, education and pleasure.
As a reading school, we encourage children to use our library to borrow books. It is open every lunchtime and after school on Thursdays. As with any school property, books need to be returned in the condition they were in when taken home. Damage to books must be paid for.
Please could you ensure that your child completes their homework
Please can you encourage your child to read at home and write a comment in their reading records.
Can we please remind parents that jewellery should not be worn in school apart from one pair of small stud earrings and a watch.
This is for health and safety reasons.
Any hijabs, hairbands or hair accessories need to be blue, black or white so they match school uniform.
PE
Please bring PE kits into school on a Monday and leave them in school. Please put your child’s name on any clothing/coats.
Outdoor P.E - Your child will need a warm black or blue tracksuit and trainers. Girls can wear blue or black leggings. They will also need a yellow or white t-shirt.
NO jewellery can be worn for PE. They must be removed.
Behaviour
We expect a high standard of behaviour at all times. The school expectations, consequences and rewards will be discussed with all children at the beginning of each term. Not following the expectations affects the education of all children in the class and will be taken seriously.
We use several strategies to encourage children to manage their own behaviour and to become positive role models.
Throughout our time at Broadfield we focus on British Values and how these relate to our school values. Our school values are:
Belief
Respect
Our Community
Aspirations
Diversity
Friendship
Inclusion
Equality
Learning
Determination
E-Safety
In School, we have been talking to the children about keeping safe online. Do you know what your child is doing on the internet?
Were you aware that children cannot join Facebook until they are thirteen?
Please can you find the time to talk with your child about what they are doing online and the potential dangers of inappropriate use.
If you require any support with this or suggestions for alternative technology free activities, please ask.
Something to do...
